Jagdeep Dhankhar |
Jagdeep Dhankhar is an Indian politician who served as the Governor of West Bengal. Before becoming the Governor, he was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. On July 16, 2022, Jagdeep Dhankhar was nominated as the Vice-Presidential candidate by the National Democratic Alliance. He was a Member of Parliament from Jhunjhunu (Lok Sabha seat) in Rajasthan in the 9th Lok Sabha in 1989–91 representing the Janata Dal. Jagdeep Dhankhar is a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan from Kishangarh, Rajasthan from 1993–1998.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was born
on 18 May 1951 in a Hindu Jat family to Gokal Chand Kesari Devi in Jhunjhunu
district of Rajasthan.

completed his school education Sainik School, Chittaurgarh and then graduated
B.Sc and LLB from Rajasthan University, Jaipur. Jagdeep Dhankhar completed his
primary and secondary school education from Kithana Government School and
Ghardhana Government School respectivelyJagdeep Dhankar married Sudesh Dhankar
in 1979 and together they have a daughter, Kamna.
Career of Jagdeep Dhankhar
Jagdeep Dhankhar was
enrolled as a lawyer in the Bar Council of Rajasthan in 1979. He was nominated
as a Senior Advocate by the Rajasthan High Court of Judiciary in 1990 and was
one of the senior-most nominated Senior Advocates in the state till he took
oath. Governor on July 30, 2019.
Jagdeep Dhankar, has
been practicing primarily in the Supreme Court of India since 1990. He has
appeared before various High Courts of India and is also a former President of
the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was a
Member of Parliament from Jhunjhunu (Lok Sabha seat) in Rajasthan in the 9th
Lok Sabha representing the Janata Dal in 1989–91. Dhankhar was a former MLA
from Kishangarh in Rajasthan in the 10th Assembly elections of 1993–98.

After becoming the
Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar fre
quently clashed with the West Bengal government and the state's Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee. He was particularly critical of the third Banerjee ministry or
its handling of the 2021 post-election violence in West Bengal.
