Liaquat Ali (1896-1951) was the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. Liaquat Ali Khan was born in 1896 in Karnal, East Punjab. After passing IA from Aligarh College (1919), he obtained BA degree from Oxford University and became a barrister from Inner Temple, London in 1922.
In 1924 he joined the Muslim League. He was the General Secretary of the All India Muslim League from 1936 to 1947. After the partition of India on 3 June 1947, he was entrusted with the responsibility of framing the institutional and administrative framework of the newly created Pakistan. He was elected a member of the Pakistan Constituent Assembly from East Bengal and was appointed Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Pakistan in August 1947.
In 1950, Liaquat Ali Khan prepared a report on the basic principles of Pakistan. This report was adopted in framing the future constitution of Pakistan. But this report is considered against the interest of the people of East Pakistan.
One of the achievements of his political activities was the agreement signed with India on April 8, 1950 (Liaquat-Nehru Agreement) for the security of the minority communities in India and Pakistan. On October 16, 1951, he was shot dead by an assailant while addressing a public meeting in Rawalapindi. His followers awarded him the title of 'Quaid-e-Millat' (Leader of the Nation).
