Tajuddin Ahmed was the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh and one of the leaders of the freedom struggle. He was born on July 23, 1925 in Dardaria village of Kapasia under Gazipur district. His father was Maulvi Md Yasin Khan and mother Meherunnessa Khan. He secured twelfth and fourth rank respectively in the combined merit list of undivided Bengal from Jagannath University in matriculation and intermediate examination.
BA (Honours) degree in Economics from Dhaka University in 1950 and LLB in 1964 while in prison as a political prisoner. He took and passed the examination for the degree.
His wife Syeda Zohra Tajuddin was a member of the presidium of Bangladesh Awami League. Their 4 children are eldest daughter Sharmin Ahmad Ripi; Mezzo girl is the current member of parliament of Gazipur-4 Constituency Simin Hossain Rimi and junior girl is Mahzabin Ahmad Mimi.
The youngest son of the family, Tanzim Ahmed Sohail, resigned as a sitting Member of Parliament from Taj Gazipur-4 Constituency.
During the liberation war, Bangladesh's independence charter was announced on April 10 at Mujibnagar in Meherpur district. On April 11, Tajuddin addressed the radio. On April 17, the Provisional Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was formally sworn in at Mujibnagar. Tajuddin Ahmad became the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
After the Liberation War, he was elected Member of Parliament from Dhaka-22 Constituency in 1973 Presented the first national budget of Bangladesh, formulated the first Panchshala plan.
After Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family was killed in 1975, he was imprisoned in Dhaka Central Jail along with three other national leaders. He was killed by an assassin's bullet while incarcerated in that Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975, which is infamous in the history of Bangladesh as Jail Murder.
